Computational Aerodynamic Simulations
NASA is leading the way in developing computer technology and software tools which allow U.S. Aircraft Engine Companies to design new aircraft engines. Pictured here are the aerodynamic pressure contours from a computational simulation of a high performance compressor. NASA's Average Passage code (APNASA) was used for this 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes flow simulation. The computed pressure contours enable engineers to understand compressor performance before building and testing expensive hardware.
